Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Legacy Kit a law firm?

No. Legacy Kit is a document preparation service powered by AI. We are not lawyers and do not provide legal advice. We recommend having a qualified attorney review your documents before signing.

Are the documents legally binding?

Yes, when properly signed and notarized according to your province or state’s requirements. Our documents are based on the same templates lawyers use, formatted to meet legal standards. However, their validity depends on proper execution (signing, witnessing, notarization).

How much can I really save?

Traditional estate planning lawyers charge $1,500–$3,000+ per estate plan. Legacy Kit packages range from $49–$249 CAD. Even with an optional lawyer review ($100–$300), you save 70% or more compared to hiring a lawyer to do everything from scratch.

What’s the difference between Legacy Kit and a lawyer?

A lawyer does everything: consultation, research, drafting, review, and notarization — and charges by the hour. Legacy Kit uses AI to prepare your documents quickly at a fixed price. You can then take them to a lawyer for review if you choose, paying only for the review rather than the entire process.

Which provinces/states do you support?

We currently offer Canada-specific documents (all provinces) and US-specific documents (all states). Documents are tailored to the jurisdiction you select, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations.

How long does it take?

Most questionnaires take 15–30 minutes to complete. Your documents are generated immediately after submission. You can download, review, and print them right away.

What if I need to make changes?

You can update your questionnaire and regenerate your documents at any time. Minor changes are included. For significant changes, you can re-run the process or have a lawyer amend the documents.

Do I still need a lawyer?

It’s recommended but not required. For simple estates, many people complete the process independently. For complex situations (businesses, trusts, cross-border assets), we recommend having a lawyer review your documents. You can hire a lawyer for review only — typically $100–$300 — instead of paying $1,500+ for the full process.
